The 2025 Mpumalanga MSME Green Innovation Challenge unfolded on Thursday, 5 June 2025, at the Sasol Recreation Centre in Secunda—and RISE fm was there to capture the moment.

Hosted by MEC Makhosazane Masilela in partnership with the Mpumalanga Green Cluster Agency (MGCA), the third annual challenge spotlighted local Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) developing sustainable, forward-thinking solutions in sectors such as renewable energy, water management, waste and circular economy, biodiversity conservation, sustainable agriculture, and green tourism.

RISE fm’s News Editor, Karabo Mpolokeng, was on the ground to cover the event and record a special live edition of Taking Care of Business from the venue. The show featured insightful interviews with key stakeholders, innovators, and partners—including Seriti Green, SASOL, Coca-Cola Beverages South Africa, and Just SA—delving into the challenges and triumphs of building a greener Mpumalanga.

A major highlight of the day was the announcement of the R100,000 grand prize winner, selected from a competitive field of innovative local enterprises. The event reinforced the province’s commitment to a just transition and to enabling economic growth that benefits both people and planet.
