FNB Launches Fincents.co.za to Boost Financial Literacy in South Africa

Empowering South Africans Through Financial Education

On RISE fm Breakfast, host Psyfer Maphike sat down with Pearl Cele, spokesperson for First National Bank (FNB), to talk about an exciting new initiative that aims to reshape the way South Africans engage with their finances: the launch of Fincents.co.za.

In a country where financial literacy remains a significant challenge, this new platform is a step toward real, accessible change — offering everyday South Africans the tools they need to understand, manage, and grow their money confidently.

Why Financial Literacy Matters

“Financial literacy is about more than just budgeting — it’s the foundation for financial freedom,” Pearl explained. “It equips you with the knowledge to avoid debt traps, build independence, plan for emergencies, and achieve long-term goals.”

Unfortunately, South Africa continues to face a literacy gap. According to a baseline survey by the Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA), nearly half of all adults in the country struggle with basic financial understanding. This is a concerning figure — especially in a landscape where credit is often more accessible than education.

Introducing Fincents.co.za: Learn at Your Own Pace

Fincents.co.za is FNB’s response to this challenge. It’s a free, online, and open-to-all financial education platform that allows users to learn at their own pace and in their own time — whether or not they are FNB clients.

The site features five main courses that cover a wide range of financial topics:

  1. Understanding Money – budgeting, interest, and banking basics.

  2. Growing Money – saving, investing, and wealth-building principles.

  3. Managing Debt – understanding credit, loans, and debt recovery.

  4. Protecting What Matters – insurance and safeguarding assets.

  5. Leaving a Legacy – wills, estate planning, and generational wealth.

Each course contains articles, videos, interactive quizzes, downloadable resources, and even games — making it a well-rounded learning experience for users of all ages and literacy levels.

“There’s even a leaderboard, so users can track their progress and compare it with others,” Pearl noted. “But what makes Fincents really powerful is how practical and accessible it is — even for people with limited data or digital skills.”

Accessible Learning for All South Africans

Accessibility is a central part of Fincents’ design. The platform includes voice-overs and subtitles, making it inclusive for the visually and hearing impaired. It’s also mobile-friendly, with content that can be downloaded and accessed offline — a key feature for South Africans living in rural or low-connectivity areas.

Signing up is simple:

  • Visit www.fincents.co.za

  • Browse available courses

  • Register to track your progress

  • Log in any time with your credentials and continue learning where you left off

Importantly, while Fincents provides financial education, it does not offer financial advice. For personalized assistance, users are still encouraged to speak to a certified financial advisor.

A Platform for Every Stage of Life

Whether you’re a first-time job-seeker, a parent supporting a family, a young professional trying to save, or even a pensioner planning your estate, Fincents has something relevant to offer. Pearl emphasized that the platform is especially valuable in communities where generational financial guidance may be lacking, or where financial habits have been learned through trial and error.

“We want Fincents to become South Africa’s go-to resource for financial education,” she said. “It’s about giving people the knowledge to take control of their money journey — whatever stage they’re in.”
