Pravin Gordhan added to Task Team tasked with tackling the higher education crisis
The Ministers of Finance‚ Communications‚ Human Settlements and Social Development have been included in the presidential Task Team tasked with tackling the higher education crisis.
Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan’s name was omitted from the team of eight ministers named by Zuma’s office on October 12.
Jeff Radebe‚ a planning minister in the presidency‚ on Thursday told a post Cabinet briefing of the change to include the four other ministries.
Gordhan is expected to deal with the Fees Must Fall campaign when he tables his Medium Term Budget Policy Statement on October 26.
In the 2016/17 financial year‚ government has allocated R49.2 billion to higher education.
At Radebe’s briefing‚ Government said it has received several proposals that have been put forward by various constituencies and stakeholders regarding fees. A technical process is under way to evaluate them.
